The tradition of student overalls comes from Sweden and is also very popular in Finland and Norway. There, the student's field of study or student council determines the color of the overalls. In 2019, this tradition came to Aachen with the mechanical engineering student council, and we joined in 2022. Regardless of the field of study, RWTH blue was chosen.

About Patches and Overalls

The patches can be purchased at events or at the student council for achievements or just for fun. Of course, you can also create your own patches that reflect your interests.

Our student council patch is mandatory for all students in our department! Otherwise, be creative and modify the overalls as you wish! Just don't wash them, because the overall symbolizes the history of a degree program. The only exception is going swimming or showering in the overall.

The overall should ideally be worn to all student events, especially events such as the Freshers' Week, our Printentest, and the summerfestival.

Our student council patches can be purchased at Augustinerbach 2a during office hours for two euros. You can also find a sales stand at some of our student council events. Additonally, you are of course also allowed to buy patches from other student councils.
