Lecturers and Teaching Awards
“Good teaching and commitment to teaching must be rewarded and at the same time pay off for a career in academia!”
— from the Future Teaching Concept
In the spirit of this quote, the departments of Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science have been awarding teaching prizes together with the student council since 2009 as part of festive events. They are awarded in the two categories “best independent teaching,” aimed at lecturers, and “best supportive teaching.” The latter is intended for lecturers, research assistants, or student assistants who have contributed to the extraordinary success of a course through tutorials, good exercise groups, or other services. It is particularly noteworthy that the teaching awards are not only aimed at persons who have held or supported courses within the programs we oversee but, of course, courses within other programs can and should also be honored.
Awarding
When awarding the teaching prizes, we first rely on your help. Since we cannot attend every course with eligible persons, you must draw our attention to such persons through a nomination. You can find the email addresses for this on the subject pages.
When the time comes, the corresponding teaching prize committee of the department, consisting of students appointed by the subject committees, meets to review the nominations received and ideally to create a shortlist, which is then evaluated again by you. Based on these results, the committee decides who should receive the teaching prize.
